Data name
@Clamp distortion and vibration prevention by vacuum chuck.
Overview
@In this work, the finished thickness is as thin as 1.4mm, and clamping using a vise causes distortion. It is difficult to satisfy the surface roughness and machining accuracy, so we used avacuum chuck.
@8 machining / spot
Point
@ƒNProblems such as clamp distortion, vibration, working strain were solved by vacuum chuck.
A5052
Result
@There was no vibration or clamp and processing distortion.
Commentary
@At our company, we sometimes use adhesives, bonds, etc. for processing materials that are thin, or have complicated shapes, but since it takes time pre-treating and after-treating, we used vacuum chuck on this case.
@In the machining process of this work, the material having a ghickness of 6mm was grasped with a vise, and the back surface was processed as a first step, and a contour cut to depth of 1.6mm was performed by plane cutting. Then, the rest of the surface was processed in the second step.

@As shown in the figure, this workpiece has a small surface area to handle with a vacuum chuck (the effective adsorption area is only 4.32c‡u, and the absorption force is only about 3.5‡s). Though we thiunk that that it is not a work suitable for a vacuum chuck, we tried to see what would happen.
@The tool used are commercially availoable such as end mills, face milling cutters, and no special items are used.
Comment
@When using a vacuum chuck with a milling / machining center, in most cases, the mounting base is specified for the workpiece.
@Since the clamping force of the vacuum chuck, when applied in the horizontal direction, is about 35
“, compared to the vertical direction, we makes the same digging as the contour of the workpiece.
@The base is machined with an O-ring groove for preventing leakage, and a leak groove for improving exhaust performance.

@For leak prevention, a neoprene sponge round cord is used as the O-ring. Toyoron hose is used as the line between the vacuum unit and the base.

This time, the base was processed with a machine that processes the workpiece.
@As for the processing condition, the second step of the plane cutting was conducted at 0.5‚‚ithe blade had jumped out when cutting was performed at2mm)
